Cyber Engineer (Network Security)

The Cyber Security team at Capital One is always looking for people excited about the intersection of DevOps and Security (SecDevOps). People who are able to create and at the same time value well thought out solutions. What you’ll do

We are looking for Network Security Engineers that have the expertise to work with Open Source Software (OSS) to secure the network perimeter. Our engineers are used to providing best-in-class security support and this role will see you working across several technologies with the possibility of starting a cloud architecture for elasticsearch for a packet capture platform. 

Additionally this role covers network visibility using IDS (Zeek and Suricata) and packet capture (Arkime) platforms. The engineer will work with dockerized sessions of each platform via the Jenkins pipeline. Arkime includes working with ELK Stack within the platform using a different application for the capture process.

Our engineers want to continuously learn through building and enhancements of our platforms while focusing on the security of our network and data and you will be expected to work on continuous improvement and expanding of automation capabilities across all platforms. Capital One Cyber uses a You-Build-It-You-Own-IT (YBYO) standard where the team is responsible for the platform/service from start to finish.  All platforms are currently located within Co-located datacenters and management of OS, Application, and Firmware updates required. Audit and compliance duties required as needed.

Ideally, the candidate will want to share knowledge via different methods such as content training within the team, contributing to OSS projects, and platform overviews and training with the larger community in Cyber.

What else are we looking for

As well as what you have already read, we are looking for someone who has the ability to focus on container and image security. A person who has experience in creating Real-Time Monitoring solutions as well as the skills to proactively identify architectural weaknesses and provide appropriate remedies.

About you

- Strong experience in networking and/or security related operations or engineering

- Strong experience with IDS platforms 

- Working knowledge of containers and images security management

- Working knowledge of packet capture platforms

- Solid knowledge of hardware experience

Any of these would be great

- Strong knowledge of Moloch/Arkime

- Intermediate experience with containers runtimes (Docker, Kubernetes, Fargate)

- Experience with Zeek and/or Suricata

- Solid knowledge of AWS platform

- Strong knowledge of hardware 

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position and can be based in either our London or Nottingham head offices.  We’ve adopted a flexible hybrid working model - one that creates the opportunity to work in your own way, but also provides great spaces for in-person collaboration.  

Our core in-the-office days are Tuesday to Thursday, but they aren't mandatory - you’ll be led by your team, the type of work you do and of course your preferences. Many of our team have flexible working patterns so we’re open to discuss flexible working arrangements with you.
