You probably think of Capital One as a credit card provider. But in many ways, we’re as much of a technology company as a finance company. And that’s why Software Engineering is pivotal to our success.
This is where you can create game-changing new software for our customers. Build new solutions. Tackle all sorts of business challenges. Meaning we have to be super agile. Which makes Tech at Capital One an exciting place to work. Get ready for design thinking, open source software, public cloud, API’s, a lean start-up mind-set, and agile framework. You’ll get ownership over big projects that will make a real difference to our customers. And we’ll give you all the tools you need so you can learn and progress along the way. It’s a win win.

Thunderbirds are a year-old mobile engineering team based at White Collar Factory in London. The team collaborates with other mobile engineering teams at Capital One, mainly on the card servicing applications that are used actively by approximately 2 million customers. Thunderbirds work on Native Android and iOS applications and back end orchestration services, some of which are hosted on AWS, others - scheduled to be migrated over to the cloud.
The team runs weekly study group sessions and is currently preparing for AWS Solution Architect certification, using some of the many premium learning resources available at Capital One.

Work with the engineering manager and the team to evaluate technical risks and technology choices;
Be a technical leader both within and outside of the team, coaching and/or mentoring more junior engineers;
Write well-factored, well-tested code both in the Android application as well as back end orchestration services;
Work with senior engineers across the company to ensure that our mobile offering stays compelling both for end-users and for the engineers working on it;

Strong technical leadership and influencing skills for growing and guiding more junior engineers towards appropriate target architectures;
Diverse technical experience, perhaps with a history moving from back end engineering to Android;
Experience in using a variety of open-source tools, libraries and frameworks for version control, building and testing, including Git, Gradle and/or Maven, Jenkins, JUnit and Espresso;
Experience in writing tests, both unit and integration;
Experience in building and owning back end services in the public cloud, preferably AWS;
