Red Team Operator

Capital One Offensive Security reduces cyber risk by uncovering vulnerabilities and weaknesses in the enterprise cyber environment by conducting full-scope adversary simulation, Red Team operations.  This position works closely with team members to plan, coordinate, execute and report on sophisticated Red Team operations, to identify cyber vulnerabilities and reduce the risk posture of enterprise systems. 

About this role:

The successful candidate for this position will be part of an exciting and dynamic environment to build and deliver industry leading ethical hacking capabilities to continuously protect and defend Capital One’s brand, systems and data. Offensive Security is part of the Cyber Operations and Intelligence program and assists with identifying opportunities to enhance Capital One’s information security posture against a broad range of cyber threats, and develop strategies to most effectively address the threats.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct sophisticated, adversary simulation activities against Capital One to enable identification and mitigation of identified vulnerabilities

  • Research, develop, and apply offensive tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP’s) in order to effectively mimic the capabilities of relevant threat actors 

  • Provide subject matter expertise in offensive security for cyber defenders, remediation teams and enterprise technology teams

  • Build and maintain technical infrastructure to support operations

What we’re looking for:

  • Information security experience in one or more of the following areas: penetration testing, vulnerability management, security operations, security architecture, application security, or network security

  • Extensive experience with offensive security testing

  • Provide Red team tech Notes outlining attack techniques and other technical concepts 

  • Contribute in threat modeling sessions on various aspects of our infrastructure and products

Any of these would be advantageous (but we'd still love to hear from you):

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent certification 

  • Experience in security testing of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). 

  • Prior experience designing, customising and building offensive security tools.

  • Ability to script (Python, shell etc) and experience with compiled languages (C, C++, Rust, and Go).

  • One or more of the following certifications (OSCP, OSCE, GPEN, GXPN, CRTO, CREST Certified Simulated Attack Specialist)

Where and how you'll work:

This is a permanent position and will be based in the London office, but report into our McLean, Virginia, USA Headquarters. We’ve adopted a flexible hybrid working model - one that creates the opportunity to work in your own way, but also provides great spaces for in-person collaboration.  

Our core in-the-office days are Tuesday to Thursday, but they aren't mandatory - you’ll be led by your team, the type of work you do, and your preferences. Many of our team have flexible working patterns so we’re open to discuss flexible working arrangements with you.
