Senior Cyber Security Engineer (WAFs)

Currently, the Network Security Services team is eager to add a Senior Cyber Security Engineer with experience in leading a technical team whose goal is not only to implement solutions but to be the creators of such solutions.

We are looking for an individual who understands the importance of perimeter security and what requirements are needed to maintain scalable systems that meet the needs of the business from design through to operational stages. This role will allow for a showcasing of technical expertise within Web Application Firewall (WAF) and Cloud based technologies as well as strong leadership qualities that drive performance and delivery. 

This is a role that will allow you to utilise the very latest technologies in order to build solutions. Solutions that you not only implement but also play an important part in the conception. It is an exciting time out become part of the team, to be part of great innovation and the drive to build and release value adding tools such as Cloud Custodian.

The Network Security Services team, although based in the UK, forms part of a global enterprise team and interaction with their US counterparts forms part of their day to day duties.  This allows for our associates to become part of concentrated effort to make a difference, to drive innovation for the good of all involved with Capital One.

About the role 

  • Drive the implementation of Enterprise-wide Perimeter Engineering program objectives to protect Capital One

  • Build robust system solutions to meet perimeter security requirements at scale

  • Work with product and architecture teams to influence/define product strategy, roadmaps. Assess, report on, and make recommendations

  • Understand business requirements and provide recommendations for building scalable systems to meet Capital One’s functional and non-functional requirements

  • Deliver on day-to-day commitments of Web Application Firewall operations

  • Manage and provide IAC

About you 

  • Prior experience working with perimeter protection eg. Web Application Firewalls (WAFs)

  • Excellent understanding of cloud technologies as well as the ability to demonstrate knowledge of cloud network security fundamentals.

  • Experience of working in an agile environment.

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services technologies including VPC, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3 or other Cloud based technologies.

  • Working familiarity of automation tooling and techniques including AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Python, Jenkins.

Any of these would also be great

  • Vendor, product, methodology and/or industry certifications.

  • Experience of working in a regulated environment.

  • Some knowledge of BOT Protection.

  • Some knowledge of monitoring tools such as AWS CloudWatch, DataDog, Splunk, New Relic.

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position and can be based in our Nottingham or London offices.  We’ve adopted a flexible hybrid working model - one that creates the opportunity to work in your own way, but also provides great spaces for in-person collaboration.  

Our core in-the-office days are Tuesday to Thursday, but they aren't mandatory - you’ll be led by your team, the type of work you do and of course your preferences. Many of our team have flexible working patterns so we’re open to discuss flexible working arrangements with you.
