Capital One UK and National Numeracy join forces in new partnership

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve  become a Strategic Partner of the independent charity, National Numeracy, supporting their crucial work to help the nation get on with numbers.

As the UK’s only charity dedicated to helping people feel confident with numbers and everyday maths, particularly those with greatest need, National Numeracy believes improved numeracy can drive social mobility, opening up opportunities and brighter futures.

We understand how important understanding and working with numbers is to our customers and we’re committed to supporting communities across the UK to build skills, resilience in order to stimulate social mobility, and make a sustainable difference to people’s lives.

This close alignment of the two organisation’s social mobility aims will make for an exciting, high impact partnership over the coming year, including our Chief Executive Officer Lucy-Marie Hagues joining the National Numeracy Leadership Council, to help tackle the UK’s numeracy crisis with a group of pioneering business leaders, HM Treasury and the Department for Work and Pensions.

The partnership has also allowed us to become a Lead Supporter on two of National Numeracy’s nationwide campaigns - National Numeracy Day 2022, on 18 May, and Number Confidence Week 2022 in November – as well as partnering on research and educational resources.

National Numeracy’s new corporate volunteering programme will also be developed with our support. The scheme will equip employers and their staff to support the development of numeracy in primary schools and workplaces and matches our focus on leveraging expertise from within our business to help communities prosper.

Sam Sims, Chief Executive of National Numeracy said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Capital One into the National Numeracy family as a new Strategic Partner. Capital One’s commitment to supporting the communities within which they work and live aligns perfectly with our work across the UK. Furthermore, Capital One’s support and commitment will make a truly tangible and lasting impact on addressing the numeracy issue. We look forward to an exciting year ahead.”

Dave Richards (he/him), Head of Corporate Responsibility, said: “We are really proud to be launching this new partnership with National Numeracy. We recognise how confidence with numbers can have a profound impact for people in their everyday life and when managing finances. We're truly looking forward to seeing the impact we can drive through the many ways we'll be working together in the year ahead”
