Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging

We’re always striving to build an inclusive place where everyone belongs. And we’re proud to hire the best people, not the same people. Growing a diverse team is not only the right thing to do, it’s the best thing to do. Diversity of thought, experience and background means better ideas and solutions. That’s why we make our recruitment process fair and accessible and offer benefits that attract the best talent, no matter their age or stage. This is where culture and compassion go hand in hand. This is where you belong.

Our commitment to gender diversity

At Capital One UK, we’re proudly committed to advancing a diverse and inclusive culture, one where every voice is heard and matters. We believe everyone has a unique point of view to share. By harnessing our collective knowledge and experience, we can power unforgettable experiences for our associates and customers.

We’re always pushing for greater gender diversity at every level of the business. It’s at the core of what we do, which is why we signed the HM Treasury Women in Finance Charter. By signing it, we commit to:

  • Achieving a 50:50 balance of men and women (within a 10% tolerance) in our senior management team by December 2025.
  • Continually reviewing our employment and talent processes to keep diversity and inclusion at their heart.
  • Ensuring senior leadership awareness and accountability to gender diversity.

As of March 2021, we have a 19:34 (female:male) gender balance in our senior management, putting female representation at 36%. We recognise that meeting our ambitious 2025 target will be a challenge. While we strive to work toward this goal, we continue to aim for progress. We’re committed to devoting the time and resources needed to push us into a new paradigm. And we have a plan and a path to getting there.

Our plans include:

  • Driving Change In the Middle: Gathering insights to better identify areas for improvement in our talent pipeline, ensuring action is directed at things which people tell us will make the most difference
  • Our Career Switcher and Pathway programmes: Taking positive action to encourage internal mobility for women and other underrepresented groups
  • Champions of Change: Producing a series of podcasts forming part of a targeted talent acquisition campaign to increase the number of women in technology roles
  • Inviting guest speakers and holding panel discussions: Covering topics on gender to develop People Leader awareness of barriers women with difference can face in the workplace, including reference to non-binary and gender fluidity
  • Reviewing our attraction sourcing methods: Updating job descriptions and hiring processes to ensure best practices in inclusive recruitment
  • Recognising the importance of intersectionality: Promoting opportunities for ethnic minority women in particular
