I work in our React, Redux, Node team which essentially sees me moving our infrastructures into the Cloud. Growing up, I had no interest in computers at all. But one of my teachers pointed me in this direction – she advised me to pull a computer apart and put it back together again which I loved. Even so, I wasn’t sure this would be the right environment for me.

But then I met the Capital One team at a careers fair, and it sounded like it would be a great fit. When I did my internship here, I realised just how much they care about you as a person. It makes a massive difference to how comfortable and confident you are – especially in an area that tends to be more male-dominated. There’s a lot of flexibility and the fact that I didn’t have any professional programming experience wasn’t an issue.

I like that I’m not just a web engineer – I already have some code in production. The team here has really helped and supported me to fill any knowledge gaps. There’s all the training you need to apply your skills to the full cycle of software engineering – from refinement through to release.
