Read John's Story (Finance Analyst Graduate)

Finance Analyst Graduate. Started July 2017.
“After I graduated with my Maths degree from the University of Sheffield, I knew I wanted to go into finance but wasn’t quite sure of the role I was interested in. I’m from Nottingham so I’ve always been aware of Capital One as an organisation – and their reputation in the finance industry is very good. I was confident the company and role would suit me, especially because it offered the flexibility to rotate.
So far, I’ve been in three different areas for three months: Treasury, Accountancy and Forecasting. I was meant to be doing a fourth rotation, but I’ve been given the chance to stay with Forecasting in a permanent role.
It’s my responsibility to look after one of the outstanding revenue forecasting models which are key metrics at Capital One. My work is really interesting and senior leaders make important decisions based on our forecasts – day-to-day, it feels like I’m genuinely making an impact.
Between the great mix of people and our central office (complete with gym, canteen and games room), it’s such an enjoyable place to work. Some of my best moments so far have been our quarterly team-building days, for example last month we did a Total Wipeout day with inflatables on a lake.
I’ve also been able to carry on my studies while progressing here thanks to Capital One funding my accounting qualification. They really look after you, invest in your development and focus on you as a person. In fact, every mentor I’ve had has impressed me from day one, and I’m even learning from the other graduates I started with.”
