About this role

Are you interested in leading programs that deliver on critical business goals and build large scale products & platforms?

Do you love building and pioneering in the technology space? Do you enjoy solving complex business problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, inclusive, and iterative delivery environment? At Capital One, you'll be part of a big group of makers, breakers, doers and disruptors, who love to solve real problems and meet real customer needs.

What you’ll do
As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) in Capital One UK, we’re looking for someone that can help us build world class technical solutions that will help Capital One customers have incredible experiences.

You will be part of the team defining and delivering the future of capital one UK. In this role you'll not only be working with a dynamic tech team but also collaborate with cross functional teams across capital one to help define product roadmap and future strategy.

In addition to the technical programs, you will also work to pave the way for an expanding TPM discipline within the team, by leveraging your industry knowledge and experience to teach the organization what a great TPM can achieve.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong technical backgrounds (ideally building highly scalable platforms, products, or services) with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout delivery life-cycle
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent problem solving and influencing skills
  • A quantitative approach to problem solving and a collaborative implementer to holistic solutions; a systems thinker
  • Experience as a TPM leader to grow and develop a team of TPMs, while also building the foundations for the TPM practice
  • Ability to simplify the technically complex and drive well-educated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives
  • Deep focus on execution, follow-through, accountability, and results
  • Exceptional cross-team collaboration; able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done.
  • Highly tuned emotional intelligence, good listener, and deep seated empathy for teams and partners

What you’ll get to learn (any previous experience would be advantageous)

  • Designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing
  • Building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services / architecture - preferably using AWS
  • Building highly scalable mobile products & platforms
  • Experience with Agile delivery
  • Delivering large and complex programs where you own the business or technical vision, collaborate with large cross-functional teams, secure commitments on deliverables and unblock teams to land business impact
  • Building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position and is based in our Farnborough office.

We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home.

We’re big on collaboration and connection, so you’ll be based in our Farnborough office 2 days a week.

What’s in it for you

  • Bring us all this and you’ll rewarded with a role contributing to the product roadmap for an organisation committed to transformation

  • We’re continuing our journey into the public cloud and have problems of scale, security, availability and performance for you to help solve

  • We love continuous learning and that’s why we give you 10% of your time to work on cutting edge innovative projects that shape the way we will work in the future

  • We offer high performers strong and diverse career progression, investing heavily in developing great people through our Capital One University training programmes (and appropriate external providers)

  • Immediate access to our core benefits including pension scheme, bonus, generous holiday entitlement and private medical insurance – with flexible benefits available including season-ticket loans, cycle to work scheme and enhanced parental leave
