Valuations Engineer

About this role
Our Analytic Underwriting ensures that we are able to make the right decision for each potential customer looking to access credit.
We use tools, coding expertise and best engineering practices, to develop functionality to determine which customers to lend to and how much, working in close collaboration with our business partners.
This role will primarily focus on enhancing our model and data infrastructure to enable best in class underwriting across the business; searching for opportunities to drive efficiencies and enable greater insight.
What you’ll do
Provide infrastructure and tooling support to Acquisition and Customer valuations teams.
Engage with and understand the needs/requirements of business partners.
Bring pragmatism to proposed solutions and identify ongoing performance improvements.
Apply solid software engineering skills, including the ability to develop maintainable code.
Partner with stakeholders on recommendations, trading off priorities to ensure there is a balance between high quality delivery, technical cost and risk
Act as the subject matter expert in the required software and data governance standards for the tools being built & managed, ensuring these are appropriately followed and documented
What we’re looking for
You have a background in writing code that works with analytic datasets. Ideally you have experience of Python and associated common data processing packages. You will have used these to process data from databases or other sources, for example, parquet data stored in a data lake
You’re passionate about the tools you use to make development as efficient as possible - for example, you may have experience with git, unit testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines or some data-focused cloud storage services (e.g. AWS S3)
You love innovation, continually researching and evaluating emerging technologies. You stay current on published state-of-the-art methods, technologies and applications and seek out opportunities to apply them
You thrive on bringing definition to big, undefined problems. You love asking questions and pushing hard to find answers. You’re not afraid to share a new idea

Where and how you'll work
This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office.
We have a hybrid working model, so you’ll be based in our office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and can work from home on Monday and Friday.
